The Circuitous Route

While it sure was hot this weekend in Purcelville, the grounds and turnout couldnt have been better! There was immense competition from the very beginning, with well known riders all over the place! We were even fortunate enough to watch Bruce Davidson do his famous arm throw-back while he tackled the water complex at the intermediate level. B.E.T. members and coach were all star-struck! But we had to get down to business and focus! Dresage was tough, but members pulled through and defendd their reputations. Stadium was quite challenging with rails coming down all day, requiring pristine judgement on riders’ parts. Cross country was also challenging as there were many fences at the base of steep hills or while going down hill. It was a very good novice course and we all learned a few lessons that day! Lesson number one: The new rule implemented for refusals on cross country! Take an important note that it is no longer 5 refusals total, but rather 4 total and 3 at one fence. Important lesson number two: ALWAYS know your course! This is vital to eventing and requires strict concentration and brainwork for riders. As one great rider showed us, you can always take the circuitous route to get back on track…so long as you do get back on track and make up for lost time! It was a tough weekend but we survived! June 22, 2009: Championships are on the map!

Well it was raining all week up in Culpeper but luckily cleared up for the weekend. The grass was long and moist, but otherwise safe to compete. Nevertheless, B.E.T. member and assistant coach, KC, and her horse Daydream Believer represented Virginia Beach with great pride. An amazing 29.5 on dressage placed the pair 6th after dressage and with a double clear round on stadium and XC, they fought hoof and nail all the way up to 2nd place. And for those of you who know this pair, it was truly a great accomplishment! They are now qualified for the USEA Area 2 Championships held at Waredaca in Maryland, but set their hopes on qualifying for the American Eventing Championships in Illinois. Good luck on the AEC qualifications and congratulations team!!!

B.E.T. Horse and Rider Qualify for AEC!!!

It was a sloppy weekend at Waredaca, but Carolyn and her brave mount, Jackson proved themselves once more. They finished on their dressage score with a clear stadium round and clear xc-despite the troubles that the ditch cuased many others that day. With this final clear round, it was definite, they were going to compete with the best in the country in Illinois at the Lamplight Equestrian Center for the American Eventing Championships. Congratulations go out to Carolyn and manyneighs for Jackson. Good luck in September!!

Congratulations to B.E.T. student Maddy and her mount Dreamer, owned by KC, for their superb representation at the Atlantic Saddle CLub Show. Maddy and Dreamer are now 6th on the leaderboard for the Youth English division, 8th in the Open English division, and 6th in the Hunter hack. Congratulations on your big weekend!

The Show this weekend was a great success! Unfortunately the 3′ division and the jump off were cancelled, but all other divisions showed promise! Many students learned a thing or two about their equitation in the walk/trot and walk/trot/ canter classes and now have new things to improve on. Many students also learned where their flaws were in stadium and many came out on top! Congratulations to all of our B.E.T. Students that competed this weekend! –Dont forget to send in your pictures!
